4 Hair Solutions for Wondrous Wedding Hair

June 17 By Elizabeth

Your hair is the crown that you wear, and your wedding hair can be an amazing enhancement to your wedding day bliss.

Sometimes all our hair needs is a little bit of tender loving care…

Whether you’re looking for a quick fix only a few days before your wedding or tips for the long term, here some tips from the hair experts:

  •  Breakage

Quick fix: Breakage is often the result of hair that does not have enough moisture content. To remedy this, find a product that promises a moisture drench for your hair. A hair mask will be fantastic however a deep- penetrating moisturizing conditioner will assist your hair. Moisture-rich products help to strengthen your hair, helping to prevent further damage and they also work on repairing the existing damage. To find a product that best suits you, see what your local hairdressers are promoting and ask for free sampling or even just some advise.

In the long run, know exactly what chemicals are being used on your hair and how they affect you. It does not mean quitting a hair product you love, it just means equipping yourself with better knowledge on how to balance out the effects.

Top tip: for women who relax their hair, it is important to know that there are two types of relaxers (sodium hydroxide and ammonia) that react badly in combination. The thioglycolates in the ammonia relaxers and the sodium hydroxide cause damage when used in combination due to the chemical reaction that takes place.

  •  Relaxer Burn

Quick Fix: Too often this gets a home treatment, which then ends up prolonging the damage even more.  Your best option right now is to visit a pharmacist or doctor. They will recommend the best cream for you.

The main cause of relaxer burn is application too close to the scalp. Allow some space for your scalp to breathe, please! If you have any open abrasions (even if they are small) on your scalp, hold off on the relaxer until all your skin is sealed up.

Top Tip: Applying an aqueous cream to your hairline prior to applying the relaxer can provide some protection.

  •  Dry Scalp

Quick fix: This problem is often best treated by switching to a shampoo that provides moisture. A compromised skin barrier (often a resultant of a shampoo that literally ‘strips’ for hair) leads to a loss of moisture from the scalp.

The next time you are washing your hair and scalp, take some time to gently massage your crown with the tips of your fingers, this stimulates a release of healthy oils and moisture. Dry scalp is a resultant of a blocked moisture flow; so a little connection with your fingertips will do you the world of good.

Top Tip: Moisturizing treatments and scalp toners are a simple and effective way to ensure the balance of your scalp’s PH levels.

  •  Split ends

Quick Fix: Trimming the split ends eradicates the problem and also prevents further splitting up the hair shaft.  It is advised to treat your hair with a good mask afterwards, to lock in the moisture and give the new tips adequate armor against dryness and splitting.

Future: Once every six weeks is the recommended hair trim guide. This is a generalization and you will know when the best timing is for you. If you use heat styling, a good heat protective spray is key.

Top Tip: If you use heat styling, a good heat protective spray is key.
